In this video, I answer a frequently asked question: Can you take the basic civic integration exam in the Netherlands?
The answer is: no. The basic exam can only be taken at a Dutch embassy or consulate abroad.
There are exceptions. In some cases, you can get an exemption, for example if you already have a good command of the Dutch language, or if you are coming to the Netherlands on a residence permit for which the exam is not required. If you have difficulty learning Dutch, you may be able to apply for a waiver in certain situations.
Of course, you can learn Dutch in the Netherlands. For example, during a stay on a tourist visa or during the visa-free period.
In short: you cannot take the basic exam in the Netherlands, but in certain situations an exemption or waiver may be possible.
